Australia provides the fourth best internet service in the world according to the Servcorp International Internet Report released today.
Following closely behind the USA, Japan and Singapore, but beating countries such as Hong Kong, England, Canada and Korea, Australians are calling for the government to invest more in internet infrastructure.
The report which questioned 7,500 business people in 24 countries found that 81.4% regularly use the internet in a different country and that only 11.7% rated their internet service as excellent in comparison to the rest of the world.
According to the report, 85.4% of Australians believe the government should invest more in internet infrastructure and 49.2% are calling for better regulation of telecommunication companies.
However, 63.1% of business leaders in Australia say the government needs to offer incentives for businesses to improve the internet and 55.4% say there needs to be an increase in competition in the marketplace.
Reliability of the Australian internet service is rated highly as is internet security; however speed and coverage appear to be lacking. Download limits are also not popular.
54.7% of Australian businesses say the internet is crucial to their operations, 97.1% say the internet has a significant impact on their success and 41.9% report that the internet gives them a competitive advantage. But, 58.7% say they currently pay too much for their internet access and download.

Interestingly, 11.7% of respondents surveyed rated their internet service as excellent in comparison to the rest of the world. However, disappointingly 20.4% Australians voted their internet service average, below average, bad or terrible.

An alarmingly large number of Australians (85.4%) are urging the government to invest more in the internet infrastructure.

49.2% of Australians are calling for better regulations of its telecommunications companies as well as pushing for better incentives for businesses to improve its internet services and increasing competition in the marketplace. In turn, this would ultimately encourage the telecommunications sector to offer a much stronger service.
